Clarence Elmer Guthu 
Clarence Elmer was born on August 7th, 1877 in Iola,Harrison twsp,Waupaca County,Wisconsin.1 Clarence Elmer's father was Simon Peder Guthu and his mother was Hellen Bennett. His paternal grandparents were Peder Torstensen and Ronnaug (Ronnow) Olesdatter; his maternal grandparents were Bennett and Bennett. He had six brothers and seven sisters, named Albert, Charlie, Oscar Palmer, Arthur Simon, Benjamin Hale, Lawrence Sylvester, Willie Rice, Ella Adele, Nettie Adel, Jesse Parden, Pearley May, Polly Mae and Helen Pearl. He was the fourth oldest of the fourteen children. He died at the age of 62 on May 12th, 1940 in New London,Waupaca County,Wisconsin.General Notes

Occupation listed on marriage record is farmer. In Crandon he worked in the woods. In Weyauwega he worked as a farmer for the insane asylum. We lived in a cottage nearby. He worked at Edison Factory in New London. We had some boarders, too. We thought we were rolling in the money then. He made a good wage ( $7/day I think) at Edison Co. He was 48 when he got his first car. He died of cardiac asmas...blamed it on working in the stone quarry, and at Edison he hand-sanded the Victrolas and varnished them.
