General Notes

1993: Lloyd and Sylvia Schulz live at St. Joseph Residence, 1925 Division St., New London,WI 54961
   Sylvia lived in the town of Waupaca. She had pneumonia as a baby. She remembers playing "Run my good sheep run" and "Hide and seek" as a child. She had a kitten, and remembers a doll house her dad made. It had two floors; wallpapered insides. For Christmas, she recieved the furniture.
   "Juan and Juanita," "Heidi" and "Pollyanna" were her favorite childhood books.
   In town, they walked wherever they wanted to go. Out of town they took a train, or hired a man with a car. She completed 2 years of schooling beyond high school for a teacher's degree. She liked math ans science best., and was involved with musicals. After school, she left home to teach for a living.  What attracted her to Lloyd? "Oh, I figure he was decent and sociable." She enjoyed going to dances with him. Their honeymoon in Columbus, Ohio, was her first trip out of state. She later visited Hawaii, Mexico, Haiti, and England.
   When she and Lloyd lived on Briggs Street in Hortonville, she worked in her flower garden along the driveway quite often, to get it started. It showcased a variety of interesting, pretty plants, blooming at various times. One of her saddest times was in 1979 when she found out her eyes were "going to pieces." Her worst memory is when her son, Donald died of cancer. Sylvia's vision is limited and she is often in a wheelchair, but her mind is sharp and she's pleasant to be with. She enjoys hearing her grandchildren play the piano, as she was a pianist herself.
   That old black box the old family photos are in was used by Donald to send his laundry home; Sylvia would wash and iron the things, and send them back to him at Carroll College.
