Mary Jane was born in 1834 in Paradise Twp., Lancaster Co., PA. Mary Jane's father was George Lewis Eckert and her mother was Sarah Jane Slaymaker. Her maternal grandparents were John, Jr. Slaymaker and Jeannett McIlvaine. She had five brothers and three sisters, named George H., Howard, Nathaniel, Albert, Charles Whitfield, Susan C., Lavinia and Elizabeth. She was the second oldest of the nine children.General Notes
