Howard was born in 1836 in Paradise Twp., Lancaster Co., PA. Howard's father was George Lewis Eckert and his mother was Sarah Jane Slaymaker. His maternal grandparents were John, Jr. Slaymaker and Jeannett McIlvaine. He had four brothers and four sisters, named George H., Nathaniel, Albert, Charles Whitfield, Mary Jane, Susan C., Lavinia and Elizabeth. He was the third oldest of the nine children. He died in Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., OH.General Notes
