Sir William Mather PC (15 July 1838 – 18 September 1920) was a British industrialist and Liberal politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1885 and 1904.
William was the eldest son of William Mather Esq and Amelia, dau of the Late J Tidswell Esq.: William was born 1838; married Emma, daughter of Thomas Watson Esq in 1863 and had issue. He was a Magistrate for co. Lancaster, and a manufacturer at Manchester; was MP for South Salford 1885-86,
In 1881, William Mather (42), Member of School Board, Mechanical Engineer of Firm Mather & Platt and Emma Jane (36) were in Park Lane, Broughton. with Alice (15), Florence M (7), Grace E (4), William E (3), Dorothy C (1), a governess and 4 female servants.
In 1889 William was elected MP of Lancashire (Gorton Div.); Lived at Wood Hill, Prestwich and a member of the National Liberal Club.
In 1891, William (MP, JP, and Engineer) and Emma J (52 & 48) were at Scholes Lane (Wood Hill), Rainsough, Prestwich with Grace E (14), William E (13), Dorothy C (11) and Lois E (5), plus 6 servants.
