Leslie's father was George William Frederick York and his mother was Lily Woodward. His maternal grandparents were George Woodward and Emma Fletcher. He had three brothers named George, Eric and William. He was the second oldest of the four children. He died at the age of 70 on March 26th, 1983 in Birkenhead.²
