Jane was born on April 10th, 1831 in Little Neston and her christening took place on April 17th, 1831 at Steam Mill Street Primative Methodist.¹

Jane's father was James Woodward and her mother was Ann Williams. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Woodworth (Woodward) and Elizabeth Tomkins; her maternal grandparents were Samuel Williams and Ann Millington. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Joseph, John, Elizabeth, Ann and Lydia. She was the fourth oldest of the six children. She died at the age of 69 in December 1900 in Neston.²

- Jane was born 10 April 1831 and baptised on the 17th April, the daughter of James Woodward, a labourer and Ann Williams (nee Woodward). This is an error and should be mother Ann Woodward formerly Ann Williams (see sister Ann's baptism).
  
  In 1841 Elizabeth (12), Jane (11). and Lydia (5) are with their brothers and parents James (a coal miner) and Ann at Gorston, near Hinderton and Little Neston. This 1841 census is missing from Ancestry.
  
  in 1855, Edward Jellicoe (Bachelor, Banksman) of Little Neston, son of James Jellicoe (a carter) married Jane Woodward (spinster) of Little Neston, daughter of James Woodward (a schoolmaster).
