Margaret was born in 1844 in Salford.1   Margaret's father was Thomas Wolfendale and her mother was Ann Allen.  Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Allen and Jane. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, John, Charles, Amelia and Mary.  She was the second oldest of the six known children.
