Amelia was born in 1846 in Salford.1   Amelia's father was Thomas Wolfendale and her mother was Ann Allen.  Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Allen and Jane. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, John, Charles, Margaret and Mary.  She was the third oldest of the six known children.
