Elizabeth's father was William Westby and her mother was Jane Stockton. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Westby and Sarah Mather. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Edward, William, Arthur, Sarah and Mary. She was the third oldest of the six children. She died at the age of 2 in 1867 in Little Bolton.¹
