Arthur's father was Arthur William George Westby and his mother was Ethel Booth. His maternal grandparents were Benjamin Booth and Ann Ellen Tomlinson. He had two sisters named Edna and Muriel. He was the youngest of the three children. He died at the age of 82 in 2000 in Leicester.²
