Caroline was born in 1855 in Ormskirk.1  Caroline's father was Richard Walmsley and her mother was Rachel Mather.  Her paternal grandparents were Richard Walmsley and Martha Forshaw; her maternal grandparents were Matthias Mather and Mary Priestley. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Edwin, Fredric, Thomas, Martha, Mary and Sophia.  She was the fifth oldest of the seven known children.  She died at the age of 59 in 1914.
