Sarah was born in June 1843 in Liverpool.1  Sarah's father was William Tomlinson and her mother was Ann Harding.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Tomlinson and Martha Carr. She had five brothers and a sister, named William, Thomas, Randle, John, Randle and Phebe.  She was the third oldest of the seven children.
