Lawrence was born in August 1834 in Pendleton and his baptism took place on October 5th, 1834 at Brunswick Methodist (Salford).1  Lawrence's father was William Tattersall and his mother was Ann (NZ) Mather.  His maternal grandparents were Samuel Mather and Alice Owen. He had six brothers and a sister, named William, Lawrence, Ralph, Lawrence, James, Joseph and Elizabeth.  He was the fourth oldest of the eight known children.  He died at the age of 1 in December 1835 in Pendleton.  He was buried on December 11th, 1835 in Eccles.2 2
