Ellen's father was Samuel Stocks and her mother was Sally (Sarah) Brook. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Stocks and Elizabeth Perkin. She had three brothers and six sisters, named James, George, Samuel, Molly, Salomey, Ruth, Martha, Sarah and Elizabeth. She was the eighth oldest of the ten children. She died at the age of 10 on July 1st, 1819 in Berry Brow. Her burial was on July 4th, 1819 in Almondbury.²²
