Betty's father was Job Stocks and her mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Ainley. Her paternal grandparents were Benjamin Stocks and Sarah Cliffe. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Edward, Thomas, Caroline, Ann and Charlotte. She was the youngest of the six children. She had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named William, Eliza and Sarah. She died at the age of 83 in December 1908 in Huddersfield.²
