Agnes, known as Ann, was born on March 19th, 1822 in Marsden and her baptism took place on March 19th, 1822 in Quarmby Cum Lindley.¹

Ann's father was Job Stocks and her mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Ainley. Her paternal grandparents were Benjamin Stocks and Sarah Cliffe. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Edward, Thomas, Caroline, Charlotte and Betty. She was the fourth oldest of the six children. She had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named William, Eliza and Sarah.
