Mary's father was Robert Valentine Pickles and her mother was Hannah Smith.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Pickles and Mary Roberts. She had two brothers and a sister, named Edward, John and Ann.  She was the second oldest of the four children.  She died at the age of 1 in January 1865 in Bingley.  She was buried on January 22nd, 1865 at All Saints (Bingley).³
