Robert was born on March 7th, 1897 in Bolton.1  Robert's father was Frederick Thomas Parkinson and his mother was Eliza Ann Mather.  His maternal grandparents were Robert Mather (Cunliffe) and Alice Heaton. He had three brothers and four sisters, named James, Thomas, Fred, Sarah, Ethel, Lily and Hilda.  He was the third oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 86 in February 1984.
