Thomas was born in March 1902 in Bolton.1  Thomas' father was Frederick Thomas Parkinson and his mother was Eliza Ann Mather.  His maternal grandparents were Robert Mather (Cunliffe) and Alice Heaton. He had three brothers and four sisters, named James, Robert, Fred, Sarah, Ethel, Lily and Hilda.  He was the fourth youngest of the eight children.  He died as an infant at 3 months old in June 1902 in Bolton.1
