Emma's father was George Openshaw and her mother was Ellen Buckley. Her maternal grandparents were Jonathan Buckley and Mary Webster. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, Fred, Alice, Mary and Ellen. She was the second oldest of the six children. She died in Bury.²

General Notes
- In 1911, sisters Emma and Ellen Openshaw (37 & 30) were still single, living with their uncle Jeremiah Openshaw (80).
