Ellen Nightingale

Ellen was born in 1827 in Sharples and her christening took place on January 28th, 1827 at St. Peter's (Bolton).¹

Ellen's father was William Nightingale and her mother was Peggy (Margaret) Riding.  Her paternal grandparents were Humphrey Nightingale and Mary Hart; her maternal grandparents were Joseph Riding and Molly Gorner. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Robert, Joseph, John, Mary, Ann, Eliza and Alice.  She was the fourth youngest of the eight children.

‌Ellen and William were married in a religious ceremony on May 9th, 1849 at St. Paul's (Astley Bridge).²
