Mary was born in December 1827 in Saltney and her baptism took place on December 9th, 1827 in Hawarden.1 2  Mary's father was Edward Millington and her mother was Hannah (Ann) Dunn.  Her paternal grandparents were John Millington and Ann Shaw. She had a brother and four sisters, named John, Ann, Jane, Elizabeth and Rachel.  She was the oldest of the six children. She had a half-brother named Edward.
