John's father was Edward Millington and his mother was Hannah (Ann) Dunn.  His paternal grandparents were John Millington and Ann Shaw. He had five sisters named Mary, Ann, Jane, Elizabeth and Rachel.  He was the second oldest of the six children. He had a half-brother named Edward.  He died at the age of 32 in 1863.  He was buried in 1863 in Hawarden.
