Lena was born in March 1892 in Chester.1  Lena's father was Joseph Millington and her mother was Elizabeth Ellis. She had three brothers and six sisters, named Joseph, Clemence, Dennis, Dilys, Ethel, Florrie, Alice, Clara and Miriam.  She was the second oldest of the ten children.
