Clara was born in March 1901 in Hawarden.1  Clara's father was Joseph Millington and her mother was Elizabeth Ellis. She had three brothers and six sisters, named Joseph, Clemence, Dennis, Dilys, Lena, Ethel, Florrie, Alice and Miriam.  She was the eighth oldest of the ten children.
