Sarah was born in June 1889 in Bolton.1  Sarah's father was John Mather and her mother was Catherine Byrne.  Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Mather and Mary Harvey (Douglas). She had three brothers and a sister, named William, John, Joseph and Elizabeth.  She was the third oldest of the five children.
