Elizabeth was born in March 1894 in Bolton.1  Elizabeth's father was John Mather and her mother was Catherine Byrne.  Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Mather and Mary Harvey (Douglas). She had three brothers and a sister, named William, John, Joseph and Sarah.  She was the second youngest of the five children.
