Sarah was born in February 1810 in Billinge and her baptism took place on February 18th, 1810 at St. Aidan (Billinge).1  Sarah's father was Joshua Mather and her mother was Margaret (Peggy) Mather.  Her paternal grandparents were James Mather and Ann Berrington. She had four brothers and two sisters, named James, Joshua, William, Peter, Ann and Margaret.  She was the second oldest of the seven known children.
