Sarah's father was John Mather and her mother was Eliza Horrobin. Her paternal grandparents were <unknown> and Mary Mather. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Samuel, James, John, Harry, Mary, Eliza, Jane and Ada. She died at the age of 2 in 1889 in Halliwell.¹
