Sarah's father was Ellis (Elias) Mather and her mother was Alice Eccles. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Robert, Robert, Elias, James, Ann, Alice, Alice and Ann.  She was the fourth oldest of the nine children.  She died at the age of 23 on January 21st, 1820.  She was buried in January 1820 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Eccles).²
