Sarah's father was Jonathan Mather and her mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Moss.  Her paternal grandparents were James Mather and Esther Mason. She had two sisters named Sarah and Catherine.  She was the youngest of the three children. She had three half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Robert, Thomas, John, Alice, Martha and Esther.  She died at the age of 16 in May 1850 in Wheelton.  She was buried on May 29th, 1850 in Leyland.²
