Esther's father was Jonathan Mather and her mother was Catherine Fielding.  Her paternal grandparents were James Mather and Esther Mason. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Robert, Thomas, John, Alice and Martha.  She was the second youngest of the six known children. She had three half-sisters named Sarah, Catherine and Sarah.
