Ralph was born on February 16th, 1760 in Prescot and his baptism took place there on March 23rd, 1760.1  Ralph's father was Ralph Mather and his mother was Ann Thompson. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, William, Ellen, Mary, Elizabeth, Ellen and Margaret.  He was the second oldest of the eight children. He had a half-sibling of unknown gender named <child>.

‌Ralph and Elizabeth were married in a religious ceremony on February 15th, 1790 in Prescot by Curate William Thompson and witnessed by Thomas Swanson & James Bradshaw.1
