Mary's father was Ralph Mather and her mother was Ann Thompson. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, Ralph, William, Ellen, Elizabeth, Ellen and Margaret.  She was the third oldest of the eight children. She had a half-sibling of unknown gender named <child>.
