Peggy was born in August 1774 in Atherton and her baptism took place on August 7th, 1774 at St. John the Baptist (Atherton).1  Peggy's father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Elizabeth Hatton. She had six brothers and a sister, named James, Thomas, John, Thomas, Mary, William and Ellen.  She was the second oldest of the eight children.
