James Mather

James was born in 1772 in Atherton and his baptism took place on January 18th, 1772 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Leigh).¹

James' father was Thomas Mather and his mother was Elizabeth Hatton. He had five brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, John, Thomas, Mary, William, Peggy and Ellen. He was the oldest of the eight children.

- It was probably James, son of Henry Mather of Pennington what married Ann Battersby at Leigh in 1801.
  
  28 Aug 1792, James Mather (20) may have married Mary Brownhills (28) at Eccles St Mary. TBC.
  
  James and family may have moved to Goosnargh (North of Preston), as there are possible marriages for James and his sister Peggy there
