Mary was born in 1870 at Egerton.1  Mary's father was Charles Mather and her mother was Ann Dewhurst.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Hannah (Ann) Kirkham. She had four brothers and a sister, named Thomas, (William), Edmund, Robert and Margaret.  She was the oldest of the six children.
