Mary was born in August 1867 in Little Bolton.1  Mary's father was John Mather and her mother was Jane Edwards.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert Mather and Ann Ainsworth. She had four brothers and two sisters, named James, Edward, Hugh, Ernest, Mary and Catherine.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.  She died as an infant at 3 months old in November 1867 in Little Bolton.1
