Catherine was born in 1872 in Little Bolton.1  Catherine's father was John Mather and her mother was Jane Edwards.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert Mather and Ann Ainsworth. She had four brothers and two sisters, named James, Edward, Hugh, Ernest, Mary and Mary.  She was the second youngest of the seven children.
