John Mather

John was born on October 5th, 1798 in Bolton and his baptism took place in 1798 in Dukes Alley Chapel (NC).¹

  This is possibly the John born 1788, baptised later once his parents had married. Both Johns baptised at Dukes Alley 5 Oct

John's father was John Mather and his mother was Betty Sutcliff. His paternal grandparents were John Mather and Jennet (Jenny) Hamer. He had four brothers and four sisters, named John, Thomas, Thomas, James, Mary, Jane, Hannah and Betty. He was the fifth oldest of the nine children. He died at the age of 56 in April 1855 in Little Bolton. His burial was on April 10th, 1855 at St. Peter's (Bolton).²
