Jane was born in September 1885 in Warrington.1  Jane's father was James Mather and her mother was Elizabeth Woods.  Her paternal grandparents were James (Jacobi) Mather and Margaret Wood. She had eight brothers and two sisters, named John, Joseph, William, James, John, Thomas, Edmund, George, Margaret and Mary.  She was the youngest of the eleven children.
