James Mather

James was born in 1825 in Newchurch in Rossendale.¹

Birth Notes
- Aged 16 in 1841
  Aged 28 in 1851, born Baltic, Labcashire
  
  Baltic is where his father Edmund was in 1841

James' father was Edmund Mather and his mother was Frances (Fanny) Holt. His paternal grandparents were Robert Mather and Peggy Duerden. He had a brother and two sisters, named Edmund, Elizabeth and Alice. He was the third oldest of the four children. He died at the age of 46 in March 1871 in Heywood.²

Death Notes
- James died between 1861 and 1871. The only Lancashire date match is at Poulton-le-Fylde, Blackpool, aged 41, which seems unlikely unless he was on his holidays (a popular holiday destination). The only local death is in 1871. This is possible as death is before the census.

  In 1861, James and Jane Mather (35 and 35) were in Cowpe, Rossendale, Haslingden (no children).
  
  In 1871, Jane was a widow.

- From 1841 James' occupation was Cotton Weaver in Newchurch in Rossendale.
  
  From 1861 his occupation was Cotton Loom Jobber in Cowpe.
