Isabella was born on October 2nd, 1833 in Radcliffe and her baptism took place on January 12th, 1834 at St. Mary (Radcliffe) conducted by Curate Samuel Johnson MA.1 2  Isabella's father was Miles Mather and her mother was Mary Hugganson.  Her paternal grandparents were James Mather and Mary Melling. She had two brothers and a sister, named John, James and Mary.  She was the second youngest of the four children. She had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Benjamin, James and Mary.
