Henry was born in September 1855 in Farnworth.1  Henry's father was Joseph Mather and his mother was Elizabeth Kennerley.  His paternal grandparents were Robert Mather and Elizabeth (Betty) Hardman. He had a brother and four sisters, named Enock, Lois, Anna, Elizabeth and Maggie.  He was the oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 4 in June 1860 in Farnworth.1
