Hannah was born in January 1857 in Whitefield.1  Hannah's father was William Mather and her mother was Mary Davenport.  Her paternal grandparents were James Mather and Mary Whitehead. She had five brothers and five sisters, named Clement, James, Samuel, George, Richard, Mary, Emma, Elizabeth, Harriet and Levinia.  She was the sixth oldest of the eleven children.
