Gladys was born in September 1906 in Bolton.1  Gladys' father was John Mather and her mother was Clara Turner.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Catherine Lawton. She had five brothers and six sisters, named Thomas, James, John, Joshua, Stanley, Clara, Gertrude, Maud, Margaret, Ethel and Florence.  She was the youngest of the twelve children.  She died as an infant in September 1906 in Bolton.2
