George was born on January 8th, 1858 in New York (NY) and his baptism took place on November 30th, 1862 in St. George (Hulme).1 2  George's father was George Mather and his mother was Mary Ann Gee.  His paternal grandparents were Joseph Mather and Ann Livsley. He had two brothers named Thomas and Joseph.  He was the oldest of the three children.  He died at the age of 41 in December 1899 in Chorlton (Lancs).3
