Emma's father was James Lord Mather and her mother was Fanny Whitley. Her paternal grandparents were Jeremiah (Jeremy) Mather and Alice Lord. She had a brother and three sisters, named Joseph, Annie, Lilly and Nancy. Emma and Joseph were twins.
