Betsy was born in 1875 in Atherton.1  Betsy's father was Edward Mather and her mother was Elizabeth Owen.  Her paternal grandparents were Geffrey (Jeffery) Mather and Catherine Gregory. She had five brothers and a sister, named John, James, Joseph, Thomas, William and Eliza.  She was the third youngest of the seven children. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named John and Martha.
